Replacing a bike seat is a simple task. A bike seat should be replaced when the outside covering is worn and the metal seat is exposed. An old bike seat looks like the one in the photograph. The material is ripping and the metal seat is exposed. 
New bike seats can be found at any department store outlet or specialty bike shop. A new bike seat comes standard with all of the replacement parts needed. There are a wide variaty of seats availible to consumers. Most come with features like gel padding, dual spring suspension and a rear light for night visability. We are replacing a mountain bike seat that has seen it’s better day. It is a simple wide cushion seat that we picked up from a local discount store. Prices for a new seat can range anywhere from 10 - 20 dollors.
First, remove the old bike seat. Check to see how it is installed on the bike. Metric wrenches, standard wrenches or allen wrenches may be needed to remove the old bike seat. Sometimes the old bike seat may contain parts that can be reused to mount the new bike seat. In our case, parts from the new seat had to be replaced with parts from the old seat.
Adjust seat to desired hight and make sure it is screwed in tight to bike frame. It also might be a good time to make sure chains are greased. WD-40 seems to work the best.
