Commercial and residential structures are popping up everywhere these days with metal roofs. New buildings and remodels alike are opting for this sustainable and economic choice without compromising on architectural design and function.
Metal roofing will outlast most other roofing types. Metal roofing is more durable. Wind can lift the edges of small tiles and shingles. Metal also allows for snow and rain to easily drain off the roof. Another added bonus to building or replacing a new roof with metal is the ease and short time it will take to install the roof. The cost of a metal roof may be more expensive at the onset, but overtime a metal roof owner should recover that cost in the long run.
Tom put on a metal roof during our recent shop addition project. SIZE sheets of metal roofing were sent with the building package that we purchased. The metal sheets were designed to screw to the purlins of the building addition. The first step was to roll out the roofing insulation. It was important to stretch the insulation out tightly prior to laying out the roof panels over the top. Tom then used self drilling metal screws to nail down the metal panels and insulation. He used six on each edge, upper and lower end, three on the purlin. He then stitched the seems every twenty four inches. Make sure you have a good washer on each screw to seal out the moisture.
I found this picture from Richards Roofing of this example of a residential metal roof.
